Ajamu Glendon Rigby (aka AJ) has a musical style that is all his own. Exploring music from a neo-soul perspective, this promising local artist has performed at numerous clubs, lounges and open mics across

the city of Toronto. He has also been welcomed on stage as a back-up vocalist by such artists as Glenn Lewis and Patricia Shirley

Growing up in a Christian household, AJ’s early involvement with the church choir exposed him to passionate music of many different genres, including rock, alternative, gospel and contemporary. As a young child, he studied piano and percussion while observing his parents’ ardent pursuit of music as a hobby. Both of AJ’s parents are themselves musicians and his sister is an up and coming poet. AJ attributes his freedom of musical expression to his family’s strong value system and passion for life and music.

A college graduate in business finance, AJ has prepared himself well for a career in the

music business. His short and long-term goals are according to him “endless” and “all of them will be reached through hard work, determination and prayer.”

AJ cites an enormous list of musical influences from many different genres. Some of them include: Erykah Badu, Maxwell, D’Angelo, Javier, Fred Hammond, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Michael Buble, One Republic, Marvin Gaye, Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, Common, John Mayer, Andrea Bocceli, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, De La Soul, Jill Scott, Dwele and Vivian Green. He states “the list could go on forever!” Drawing from different musical styles, AJ has a unique musical spirit that is reflective of his well-rounded musical palette. His musical goals include creating a global sound that will cross borders to touch the souls of many music

enthusiasts. In the words of AJ, “music is who you are; music flows from the soul; it is a reflection of life”. Like the best artists, AJ has an innovative flair with a vision.
